چکیده

The phospholipid composition of human platelets and erythrocytes has been reported by several investigators (1-4) and the metabolism of phospholipids in human blood has been studied in some detail (5-9). Recent investigations of phospholipid metabolism of leukocytes have been reported (6, 10) but we are not aware of similar studies on platelets. In this laboratory, investigation of the biochemical characteristics of leukemic leukocytes is being carried out, and as part of this program an examination of the phospholipid metabolism of these cells was undertaken. In this report are presented data on the phospholipid composition of platelets and leukocytes from leukemic patients, and the results of studies on the incorporation of P32-labeled orthophosphate (P32) into the phospholipids of these formed elements in vivo and in vitro. The phospholipid composition was similar in leukocytes and platelets from chronic leukemia and in leukocytes from acute leukemia. The pattern of incorporation into leukocyte phospholipids of p32 administered therapeutically to patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia was studied, and it was found that rapid incorporation of P32 could be demonstrated in lecithin, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, inositol phosphatide, and sphingomyelin. In the course of this work it was

O-16: Metabolism of Exogenous Fatty Acids, Fatty Acid-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux, PKA and PKC Pathways in Boar Sperm Acrosome Reaction

Background: For understanding the roles of fatty acids on the induction of acrosome reaction which occurs under association of cholesterol efflux and PKA or PKC pathways in boar spermatozoa, metabolic fate of alone and combined radiolabeled 14C-oleic acid and 3H-linoleic acid incorporated in the sperm was compared, and behavior of cholesterol and effects of PKA and PKC inhibitors upon fatty aci...

LA Phosphate Incorporation in Brain Phosphoinositides *

To test this hypothesis, we have investigated the incorporation of radioactive inorganic phosphate into these phospholipids by rabbit brain slices. If the biosynthesis proceeds as formulated, I --f II + III, the following results can be predicted. Before equilibration of the labeled phosphorus, the phosphate groups in position 4 of II and positions 4 and 5 of 111 must have a higher radioactivit...

Neutral glycolipids in leukemic and nonleukemic leukocytes.

Neutral lipids, free and total cholesterol, glycolipids, and phospholipids were determined in 20 preparations of leukocytes distributed in four groups. Group I consisted of leukocytes from nonleukemic patients; group II, from patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia; group III, from patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia; and group IV, from patients with acute leukemia. Two neutral glycol...

Arachidonyl transfer from diacyl phosphatidylcholine to ether phospholipids in rat platelets.

High levels of ether phospholipids were found in rat platelets. Alkylacyl compounds constituted 18 and 29% of glycerophosphocholine (GPC) and glycerophosphoethanolamine (GPE). Alkenylacyl compounds, not detected in GPC, represented 40% of GPE. Arachidonate comprised 60%, 42% and 26% of the acyl residues in the sn-2 position of alkenylacyl-GPE, alkylacyl-GPE and alkylacyl-GPC respectively. Based...
